The first dog we owned was a little Corgi she was the cutest little thing her name was
'Candy'. I found she was better with adults than with children, although it is said that Corgi's are ok around children, because we had a pretty hectic household she liked to go to the old ladies next door for a bit of peace and quite. She loved being spoilt and always the centre of attention. The  two old ladies that lived next door to us adopted her, because she ran out onto the busy road out side our place and got run over, we could not afford to pay the vet bill. They spoilt her to bits. She would still come over to visit us stay for a while until the kids would start cuddling and playing with her to much, then she would want to get away so she would escape home to the two old ladies where it was much quieter and safer from kids for her.
Even though Corgi dogs are Even-tempered and affectionate, these dogs will adapt their playing to fit a child, senior citizen or even the handicapped, making them excellent household pets and  this website will take you  therapy dogs. which will give you even more information on Corgi's.

Latter we got bigger dogs, a long-heired German Sheppard who was the best dog of all his name was Pup, we couldn't agree on a name that would stick, 'Pup' was the only name that stuck. He was the best dog to be around children, when the children played out side he would be there getting in their way, he thought he was one of them. He loved the water, summer time the children would play with the hose squirting each other, or on the slippery-slide Pup would be there getting in the way, the children would have to put him in the shed so they could play in peace. He loved the water..

We went on holidays all over the North Island  in New Zealand 'Pup' would always come with us, we had big cars to accommodate four children, father mother  and a German Shepard dog. 'Pup' sat on the floor at my feet of the front passenger side, which was not that comfortable for me but we would stop for breaks to stretch our legs and give him a run-around and maybe a bit of a picnic. Hiding him away in motels or camp sites. He would know what was going on and be so good, the kids would take him out before bed to the toilet, it was all such fun for all of us.

This is a picture of 'Pup' isn't he handsome

He was a good guard dog, not a barker because my children's father was a violent man who would tie the poor dog up and if he barked he would go out and bash him with apiece of wood which left him with a broken scull, but he did not bark. He and I did fight over this a lot, and I do not sagest anyone should do this because we have animal protection now. But poor old Pup survived the hardship. He would make whimpering noises that we could understand and relate to,  who ever it may have been outside, even if it was someone who should not have been around the house we could understand what he was trying to say.  He was very loved.

We moved to another city with a smaller house and no pets aloud so we had to find a home for him, that was the worst thing I had to do to him and my children, the RSPCA said they had a home for him.  We found out he would not stay home and just fretted away for us. He became a leader of a street pack and had  been shot on sight for starting bad dog fights. I still to this day feel so bad and will not own another dog until I am sure I will be able to have it all of it's life, and give it the best life I can.

But in saying this, we had a Doberman for a while, while we still had Pup, His name was Chops. He was a naughty dog, we got him as a fully grown dog, so he already had some bad habits.

It seemed like he could read your mind and knew what you were thinking, he new I didn't like him inside the house, so he would come in sit down close to the front door and when he saw me he would trot through to the back door and out side, as much to say well I just walked through your nice clean house take that.

One day we went visiting my in-law's, we left Chops in the car. He chewed the leather of the back seat so my children's father tied his snout up which made him froth at the mouth. Please don't do this though. The last straw was one day while I was at work my neighbour rang me to tell me that Chops was killing our chickens. He was grabbing them in his mouth throwing them in the air until they died. I raced home to catch him doing it, as soon as he saw me he ran under the house so I shut the door to keep him in there until the master got home, but he would not come out so we shut the door again. That night we could hear him doing something under there. In the morning the master had a look to see what he had done to our surprise, he had chewed all the casing around the hot water pipes and cistern, he new he was bad so would not come out or any were near us, so we left the door open and he came out while we had gone out and disappeared.

Some years later I ended up with a new partner, he bought home a young Rottweiler bitch, I didn't want another dog but had never told my new partner, so one day he thought he would cheer me up by bringing home this dog, as soon as the bitch saw me she pissed on my lounge floor, 'just as well it was a wooden floor', because she was scared. I screamed, but the kids ran out to comfort her and a new chapter began.

Billy was her name, she was a good girl, we used to go into the bush to work, we would take her, she would know where we were going and get there before us.

She could also tell when my then partner, would be in a foul mood. She would strut past the big picture windows that were in front of the house, that looked out to a fabulous view of rolling hills and sea at Opua the bay of Islands NZ, and would not come near him, which would make him even worse. She would hang around me as much to say, he is going to go off today be careful.

She had pups which he put in a bag and drowned, he was another cruel man. she to was given to the RSPCA.

We then moved over here to Australia, but he moved back after only four months and I have stayed for nine years, and have done very well with a very nice Australian man, but that is another story.
